G.T. Feat. Babyface Ray — “Going Long” Video
G.T. has gotten love on The Block for years and I can safely say this is the best quality video and single the Detroit MC has dropped to date. The clip looks like it was directed by Michael Bay, with colors and resolution sharp enough to match Ray and G’s no-nonsense game plan, while the song itself blends uber catchy melodies and flows galore for something special to heat up summer. These two are the new Joe and Zeke and it feels like we’re finally entering the 1988-1989 season.
Goon des Garcons Feat. Fredo Bang — “5AM”
Late night antics are captured with pinpoint accuracy on “5AM” from Goon des Garcons. This new collabo with fellow hitmaker Fredo Bang carries the confidence of heading into a Friday night on a full stomach, and delivers the energy of 1am when all the extras have settled in.
Nasaan Feat. SwaVay — “BUSY”
There are often times I feel bad I can’t get back to people in more timely manner. In reality, I should carry the same mindset as Nasaan on “BUSY.” The fiery 313 spitter adds another hot rock to his resume via this creative knocker that lets everyone know he’s busy seizing the moment and will get back to them once the paper is accounted for.
LATHEGOAT — “You Wouldn’t Believe Me”
When records come from the chest, you can tell. That’s clearly the case with “You Wouldn’t Believe Me” from LATHEGOAT. This big, bold single from the Tampa MC carries a traditional approach to heart on the sleeve hustle rap tracks, via high-end lyrics, straightforward flows and triumphant, soul-tinged production that gives LA’s message extra oomph. No arguing this one.
UFO Fev — “Inception”
The best choices are rarely the most obvious ones. That’s one of many jewels I soaked up listening to “Inception” from UFO Fev. The rugged new record from the relentless NY spitter is a transparent look in the mirror that should serve as fuel to anyone looking to stay one upping themselves.
Drex Carter x Redveil x KKami — “Live From The Matrix” Video
No matter what pill you’re taking, “Live From The Matrix” is a sonic revolution, when compared to the generally uproarious climate of rap music. Not only does Drex and crew’s new single carry a clever visual, the mellow, moody tune is one of those records you light up to before playing, then end up running back about a hundred times. You know the next move.
Mitch$$$ — “sixth phase”
Mellow, sweaty summer nights make for a good match to the simmering aesthetic of Mitch$$$’s “sixth phase.” This groovy new singalong from the Orlando-based seeyousoon member is an honest and open-minded outreach to anyone who will listen and my ears are wide open.
The Lasso x Jordan Hamilton x The Saxsquatch — “They And I” Video
Even if The Lasso’s new record “They And I” isn’t up your typically alley, anyone with a good eye will appreciate the extremely well-done visual. The clip has a photo book’s worth of top notch shots and delivers tons of character with very little cost, making the abstract jazz jam only that much better.
